Phase I - January to November 2006 Print E-mail

Achim SteinerCan ISO, UNEP, WBCSD, IISD, UNEP FI and the UN Global Compact work together in driving a new, long-term, global program to promote sustainable development that includes specific actions and follow-up? Can such a program be the basis for a unique partnership initiated and supported by industry?

Phase I objectives
a. To initiate a global program through an event consisting of a forum, and workshops.
b. To make the participants in the forum and workshops generate proposals within the field "issues, incentives and tools for sustainability in the supply chain", these proposals forming the basis for the program.

The forum and workshops will focus the following key questions:
How can we avoiding depleting key natural resources by 2050?
How can we better make the business case for a sustainable future?
How can international standards be used to help build a more sustainable world?
What changes in policy, institutional structures and governance processes are required to help business become more sustainable?
